What is the Australian Student Visa?
Subclass 500 Student Visa: Allows overseas students to study full-time at registered Australian institutions
Access to work up to 48 hours per fortnight during study sessions (work limit may be further reviewed in 2026)

Provides access to Australia’s high-quality education system, health cover (OSHC), and opportunities for internships
Genuine Student Requirement (GSR) replaced the previous Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) from 2025
Key Eligibility Requirements in 2025
Must hold a valid Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from a CRICOS-registered education provider (Letters of Offer are no longer accepted for applications)
Meet English language requirements: minimum IELTS 6.0 / equivalent (from Aug 2025 the minimum increased from 5.5), with some exceptions for pathway/ELICOS students
Have access to sufficient funds: from July 2025, at least AUD 29,710 for living expenses plus 12 months of tuition fees and travel costs
Hold valid Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of your stay
Satisfy health, character, and the new Genuine Student Requirement (demonstrate true academic intent and alignment with career/future goals)
From July 2025: Holders of Visitor (600) and Temporary Graduate (485) visas cannot apply for a student visa while in Australia
Application Process
Select a course and receive your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)
Gather required documents: passport, financial evidence, English test results, OSHC, health and character documents
Submit your application online via ImmiAccount, pay the application fee (AUD 2,000 from July 2025)
Provide biometrics (if required) and attend health exams (if directed)
Track your application status online; processing time is typically 1–4 weeks
